REVIEW & SWATCHES- COLOUR POP "ULTRA MATTE LIPS"

Hello my Lovelies!!
Lets talk about liquid lipsticks shall we ? Well it won't be wrong to start with the brand which took the makeup world by a storm and anyone who came along. No doubt that i am already a die hard fan of this brand and i just want to buy everything *umm guilty*.

These Ultra Matte Lips by Colourpop have mixed reviews around the globe. To be really honest, it gets really confusing when everyone is saying something different. Though it is a fact that something that works best for me can be your worst enemy.

Before i jump right into the review one needs to understand the fact related to liquid lipsticks specifically. You need to try them out yourself to test which formula works best for you. Yes! its true you need to try it out yourself. Mainly due to the reason that everyone's body, skin, undertone, temperament and bearing ability is way different from another. Few similarities might exist but everyone is unique in their own way. For example, i can wear cement on my lips and won't feel them as drying as some other person might while wearing a normal matte lipstick not necessarily liquid lipstick. I may have bazillion fine lines on my lips but you might have very smooth lips. These are the few prominent things one needs to understand before going out and buying any product. Once you actually know which blogger's/Youtuber/Makeup Artist's skin, undertone and bearing ability matches your body then freely go ahead and try the brands blindly.

Now continuing with my review. These retail for $6 which makes them around Rs 950 to Rs 1150/- while ordering online. Prices may vary from page to page. I got mine from INDELATH & Panache Vivre.

Moving on to the lipsticks and their formula; when Colourpop first came out with these it wasn't a hit. The formula was very drying, flaky and not easy to deal with when it came to its application. Majority hated/disliked the formula and suggested not to get them while others were quiet happy with their longevity.
Well here is where the good news come in, Colourpop has recently changed its formula *yay*. Yes, every time they come out with a new liquid lipstick its a better version and formula than the prior one. So people who bought it earlier as per the release will be having older formula which is really drying and flaky. If you have bought them recently so you'll know what i am talking about. The newer formula can be drying for some people but it isn't for me as drying as the older one. And its in fact way better and less drying now.
The formula is not only good but its way superior than the old one. If we talk about the prior application results, it made the fine lines of lips be so prominent that anyone can notice it from miles away. Now it doesn't do it as much as it used to.
As far as the scent is concerned, no they don't have an overpowering scent that can be uncomfortable for some. It does have a mild scent which you can smell if you really take a very close sniff.
Coming to the application, yes they're way too thin in consistency that application can be a problem for people who aren't very precise with the application i.e. it can get messy way too easily. I'll recommend applying them very carefully. Lining your lips beforehand can actually help in avoiding the mess.
One thing i'll like to point out here is that every shade has a different consistency, texture, appearance and finish. Don't get deceived by just trying one. Lighter colours are more streaky and chappy then darker ones. Yet again the formula and application of each colour differs from the other.
In my humble opinion, i think the newer shades are better than old ones. Are the old ones bad ? No, if you get the newer formula. When it comes to their longevity, you need to understand this that it does vary from person to person and colour to colour. Person to person because what you eat, how normal lipsticks stay on your lips, how much you lick your lips and everything can actually hinder the duration. For example, a normal matte lipstick lasts on me for 6 hours without eating/drinking else 4 hours. Liquid lipsticks generally tend to last longer than normal matte lipsticks, depending on your meals and activities.
By colour to colour i meant that the lighter colours tend to fade more from the middle then darker ones. The darker ones does stain a bit though. They happened to stain my lips.
If you want the best application ever try using an actual good quality lip primer trust me it makes a huge of a difference in the results.

Now the colour selection, HOLY... they have an amazing variety of shade range to choose from. I have 14 shades to show you, varying from nudes, pinks to reds and brown. So here are the swatches:

Natural Lighting
Indoor Lighting

StingRaye (New Formula)-  This colour will compliment medium to dark skin tones better. It appears more of a mauve brown on my NC 20 skin tone.

Teeny Tiny (New Formula)- This colour will compliment medium to dark skin tones better. Its too brown for my complexion. If you are ok with rocking brown lips go ahead and do your thing.

Beeper (New Formula)- This is little soft brown which is likely to compliment fair to medium skin tones better. It can wash out darker skin tones a bit.

Bumble (Old Shade but Newer Formula)- I have two of this shade, one older formula and one newer. Older formula is really drying and highlight the fine lines of the lips. On the other hand, newer formula is excellent to wear. It is likely to go with every skin tone. This is my favourite.

Clueless (Newer Formula)- This is a very light shade to my liking but i prefer pairing it upwith a darker lip liner underneath.

Tulle (Older Formula)- The most important thing is that this shade isn't vegan and i am totally against brands and products which aren't vegan. Other than the fact of it not being vegan, this shade is very flaky and chappy. It highlights fine lines and doesn't give a nice finish. i bought this shade before i knew about it not being vegan. I dont use it but for the purpose of the review i did swatch it.

Bad Habit (Newer Formula)- This is a beautiful shade. Its likely to suit a wide variety of skin tones.

Scrooge (Newer Formula)- Again amazing finish and formula. I love this shade. This shade will suit everyone out there. Its a beautiful pink with reddish undertones.

Mars (Old Formula)- Not really a big fan of this shade. It applies little streaky. It will go well with light and medium to tan skin tones. Its just not my cup of tea.

Silhouette (Newer Formula)- This is LOVE. This is amazing blue based red. This is best shade for all my ladies who love reds. Will go with any skin tone and compliment anyone.

Avenue (Old Formula)- Its the best one from the old batch. Not drying, opaque and beautiful finish. It goes well with any skin tone. Its the best deep blood red shade.

More Better (Newer Formula)- Its a berry pink shade with hint of purple. Amazing formula. Will suit every skin tone.

Final Verdict....
All the newer formula ones are great, hence highlighted if not.  These may and may not be everyone's cup of tea mainly due to the fact, how much one has tendency to go with liquid lipsticks. I personally enjoy them. These are budget friendly and nice option to start with. Just an advice, read reviews and search about the shades you're intrigued to buy so you know which one is likely to go with your liking and disliking. I'll suggest trying newer formula first so you'll have a better idea about the finish and texture.

Rating - 3/5 !!
